Ак-Мечеть была основана в XVI веке как резиденция калги-султана — наместника крымского хана. Калга был крупным феодалом (его владения — "калганак" — простирались от Ак-Мечети до истоков Салгира, у подножия Чатырдага) и имел большие полномочия: держать свой придворный штат, право карать преступников смертью, в отсутствие хана командовать войсками. По сообщению турецкого путешественника Эвлия Челеби (сер. XVII в.), Ак-Мечеть была цветущим городом: дворец калги, 2 тысячи каменных домов в два и три этажа, крытых ярко-красной черепицей; 200 торговых лавок; пять больших мечетей, три монастыря, два медресе.
После взятия Крыма русскими войсками Ак-Мечеть опустела, дворец калги был разобран, многие строения уничтожены.

Одни источники говорят, что дворец калги находился на территории нынешнего парка «Салгирка» (он же Воронцовский парк). В других более интересно:

А там, где сейчас расположен поселок(район?) Ак-Мечеть, точно не было старого татарского города.
Поищу еще карту, чтобы разобраться.
